The Heart of the Jungle is our show garden for BBC Gardeners’ World Live 2026.

The Garden Story

We wanted to challenge what people expect from both show gardens and modern garden design.

Many gardens today follow a similar formula — clean porcelain, outdoor pergolas and low-maintenance layouts. While these spaces can look great, they can often lack depth, atmosphere and a real sense of life.

This garden is about doing something a little different.

Strong architectural structure runs through the space, with bold pink timber arches guiding you on a journey through dense, layered planting. The contrast between structure and planting is intentional — sharp lines set against softer, more natural forms.

At its centre sits a calm, usable seating space beneath a pergola, creating a moment to pause within an otherwise immersive environment.

Reconnect with your body and mind as you escape the noise of everyday life.

The Aim

This garden isn’t just about how it looks — it’s about how it feels and how it can be lived in.

We wanted to show that a modern garden can still be low maintenance and practical, without losing character or connection to nature.

The Heart of the Jungle is designed to feel immersive and transportive — a space that feels like stepping on holiday — while still being achievable in a UK garden with the right plant choices and layout.

It’s about creating something that feels alive, without becoming complicated or high maintenance.

The Planting

The planting is deliberately foliage-led.

We’ve focused on texture, structure and layering rather than relying on heavy colour. Where flowers do appear, they sit mainly within pink and orange tones — complementing the architecture rather than competing with it.

The aim is to create depth and interest through form, allowing the garden to feel full, immersive and considered from every angle.

The Build

A key part of this garden is how it has been constructed.

We’ve developed a method that allows us to build efficiently while reducing waste — something that’s often a challenge with show gardens.

Many elements have been prepared off-site, allowing us to focus on quality, precision and finish once on site.

This garden is about more than a moment at a show.

It’s about showing what’s possible — creating a space that feels considered, immersive and alive, while still being practical and achievable.
